Yoshinori Funakoshi (1868–1957) was the founder of Shotokan Karate, but one of the main people who regulated the Shotkakan Karate system was Masatoshi Nakayama (1913–1987). Professor Nakayama is a senior student of Professor Funakoshi and formed the Japan Karate Association (JKA) in 1949. I think Dr. Nakayama helped me to form the JKA Instructor Training Program (Kenshusei) was one of the reasons why karate spread around the world at an incredible rate. A senior teacher who has graduated from the JKA instructor training course is now a legend in the Sentokan karate world. Kanazawa Hirokazu, Enoe Enosuke, Osaka Yoshiharu, Asai Tetsuhiko, Shirai Hiroshi, Masahiko Tanaka, Mikio Yahara, Masao Kawazoe, Takaki Mikami, Yutaka Yaguchi, Shiro Asano, Hideo Ochi, Shigeru Takashina, Kiyoshi Omura, etc. A teacher!

The standards of JKA instructors were so high that their success was guaranteed. Many of these finest martial artists then organized and built JKA affiliates based in different countries. Nowadays (1960s, early 70s), the Bruce Lee epidemic swept the world, combining this with the pure quality of the JKA instructor, and Shotok Karate exploded at an astonishing rate. JKA has created a heritage that the whole world of Shotokan respects and respects. The Karatedo Association of Japan is still very strong today, boasting instructors from around the world, thousands of Shotkan dojos, millions of members, and very high karate standards around the world.

After the Nakayama family died in 1987, the JKA split and continued to split into smaller factions, but even if that happens, the headquarters dojo is in Koraku, Bunkyo Ward, and the headquarters dojo remains very strong. is. The center of downtown Tokyo. With millions of Saint Karate practitioners around the world, we thank Funakoshi, Nakayama and the wonderful Japanese Karate Association, either directly or indirectly. I’m no longer a member of JKA, but I see them as “guidelights” for Shot Ukan Karate.
